Sleights Bowling Club has had an exciting, if at times unrewarding, week.
They lost at Kirkbymoorside on their beautiful but very quick green in the Zone 3 knockout.
They were also very narrowly beaten away at Swinton in the Knockout Pateman Cup.
They played three friendly matches, losing to East Ayton away and Sowerby Flatts at home, although 16 members were playing at Swinton at the same time.
But there was one win at home to Kirkbymoorside.
The weekend was taken up with the Club Pairs knockout competition which was played in glorious weather and started with a salad lunch.
Partners were drawn at random with four woods each over 11 ends.
There were the expected close games on the Saturday as they were reduced to the last four teams who played the semi-final and final on the Sunday.
These were Colin Gray and Keith Thompson against Joyce Blythman and Pat Harrison.
And Eddie White and club president Paul Shardlow took on John Pybus and Pat Perry.
Joyce and Pat put up a terrific performance and could have won, but Colin had a brilliant last shot of one end to take out a holding wood and was left with a seven, which the ladies could not pull back.
The other semi was just as close.
John and Pat were often holding a few when Eddie used firing shots with such accuracy that he took them out.
This set up a wonderful final between Eddie with Paul against Colin with Keith.
It was a very close finish, but the trophy winners were Colin Gray and Keith Thompson.
