TEENAGE cricketer Gordon Bland smacked a massive 193 not out as Sleights cruised to a 129-run win over demoralised Lealholm on Saturday.
The 17-year-old opened for Sleights and lasted all 40 overs of the Eskdale League clash as he smashed the ball to all corners of the ground.
"I haven't been batting that great this season but on Saturday, everything seemed to click into place," said Gordon.
"It was my first 50 and it built up from there."
Gordon – who has been playing senior cricket since he was 11 – was told he needed three sixes to reach a magical 200 and managed one as Sleights ended on 275/2.
He had good support, especially from fellow young opener Isaac Christopher, as they put on a 92 partnership for the first wicket.
Lealholm tried to stem the onslaught by regularly changing bowlers but it was to no avail.
In reply, the visitors had no realistic chance of surpassing Sleights' total so they batted for bonus points.
They were on course for a maximum of four until the versatile Ron Lyth, taking a rest from wicket-keeping duties, entered the fray and cleaned up the tail with a devastating blast of fast bowling.
