TWO people died on Whitby's roads in separate accidents over the weekend.
An 18-year-old man was killed and a 17-year-old was seriously injured after their car hit a tree near Goathland on Sunday.

The pair, both from the Malton area, have not been named, though the younger male remains in a stable condition in Middlesbrough's James Cook Hospital.

The accident happened at 7.40am at Thomasson Foss on the road between Goathland and Beck Hole.

A police spokesman said the red Renault Clio car the pair were in was travelling from Goathland towards Beck Hole when for reasons unknown it left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the younger passenger was airlifted to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance where he remains in a stable condition.

Whitby's fire crew were called to the scene to assist police and the road remained closed for six hours while police investigation teams gathered evidence.

A second man died while riding a Harley Davidson trike in Briggswath at 2.30pm on the same day.

His vehicle left the B1410 road along The Carrs.

An ambulance was sent and the man, from the Tyne and Wear area, was pronounced dead on arrival at Scarborough Hospital.

Police could not confirm whether he died due to injuries sustained in the accident.

The man had been riding as part of a group when the accident occurred and a helicopter was also sent to the scene.

The road was closed for three hours while the trike was recovered.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the Goathland accident to come forward and contact Sgt Neil Campbell, of Malton Police, or Scarborough traffic constable Jon Beaumont on (0845) 6060247.
