EVENTS

QUIZ night at the Plough Inn at 9pm every Tuesday. Good prizes, raffle, refreshments, all welcome.
QUIZ night at the Salmon Leap Hotel at 9pm every Wednesday, all welcome.
DOMINOES drive at the Salmon Leap Hotel at 8pm every Tuesday, all welcome.
SLEIGHTS Horticultural and Industrial Society will hold its 127th annual show on Saturday 16 August on Sleights sportsfield, Lowdale Lane, 1.30-4pm. Admission adults £1.50, children 50p, concessions £1. Entries for the show may be posted to the secretary Mrs S Atkinson, tel 600177 to be received first post on Friday 15 August, or can be entered at the Pavilion Sportsfield on Friday from 7-8pm. There is an amendment to the schedule, class 93 should read 7" undecorated cake, not fruit loaf. The committee would appreciate new faces to assist in running the show. Setting up takes place on Thursday evening.

CLUBS
INGHAM Park Play Area Committee meets in the village hall on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm.
FOR the most competitive hall hire rates for clubs,
meetings or functions, ring Rosemary on 810804 to find out the availability of Church House.
SLEIGHTS Singers meets in Church House at 7.15pm on Thursday evenings, new members welcome. It has now started its summer season with new music for the July concert in Sleights Village Hall. The choir is looking for a stand-in pianist for rehearsals and concerts. For details ring Mr E Marsden on 810707.

FLOWER arranging classes have now started in Church House every Thursday, 2-4pm, with Ann Gullon.
SLEIGHTS pre-school group Sunshine Corner in the grounds of Sleights C of E School, Monday to Friday mornings, 9-11.30am during term-time. Vacancies for children two to five years old from September. To reserve a place contact Mrs Kemp on 897652.
ST John's Church Mums and Toddlers Group meets in Church House on Mondays during term time 1.30-3pm. Children 0-five welcome with parents/carers welcome. Activities include creative artwork, music and cookery as well as play, £1 per class includes refreshments. For details ring Janet MacDonald on 810275.
MUMS and Toddlers Group meets in Sleights Village Hall on Thursdays, 1.30-3.30pm, £1 per class including refreshments. Children 0-4 years most welcome. Wide range of toys for all ages. ESKDALESIDE-cum-Ugglebarnby Parish Council has issued its first booklet Parish News, explaining about the parish council, one of the stages the parish council will be working towards is quality council status. The booklet is available in all shops in the village. The booklet will be issued quarterly.
NEW library service, the supermobile library with a full stock of books, videos and DVDs with computer facilities and internet access will be in the car park in the centre of the village on Monday mornings from 10am-1pm. A lift and low entrance steps provides easy access.
SLEIGHTS YCA meets on the second Monday of the month, 2.30-4pm in Sleights Village Hall. Speakers at all meetings, new members always welcome. Contact the secretary on 810362 for details.
THE new supermobile library is situated on the car park in the centre of the village at the following times: Mondays 10am-4pm and Wednesdays 2.30-6.30pm. The library has easy access and full computer services.
WHITBY Flower Club meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 2pm in Sleights Village Hall. New members welcome. For further information contact Mrs J Frater on 810278. There will be no Whitby Flower Club during the month of August.
WHITBY and District Model Railway Club meets in Church House from 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings. For details contact Dr J Stewart on 811039 or Mr D Thorne on 601757.
