RUSWARP WITHE May meeting took place in the village hall with the president, Margaret Walker, in the chair. The minutes of the March meeting were read by Pat Harrison. The secretary, Ruth Ellis, read the newsletter and items of int
erest were noted. Mrs Thompson read the treasurer's report.
Before the start of the meeting the speaker, Kath Jones, spoke about the art of scrap booking. She showed her scrapbooks which contained many different topics, one being of her life to date with many photographs and interesting snippets of family occasions. Mrs Jones was thanked by Ann Nattriss.
The competition for a pretty bowl was won by Maureen Thompson. A china mug was presented to Eileen Morley for gaining 100 points in the competitions.
An invitation had been received from St Catherine's Hospice to the Victorian fair they are holding at Raven Hall Hotel on 20 May.
Three members were to attend the digital camera day to be held at Robin Hood's Bay and two members had attended the spring council meeting at Scarborough. Staithes, who will send a delegate to the AGM in London this year, will vote on our behalf.
The federation carol services this year are to be held at Whitby St Mary's on 8 December and Selby Abbey on 15 December.
Supper Club in May will be at the Fox and Rabbit, Lockton and in June at the Lion Inn, Blakey. Arrangements were made for the visit to the Esk Valley Theatre in August with pre-theatre dinner at The Arncliffe Arms. The next outing will be a visit to Sledmere House and the designer centre, York on 4 July.
The meeting on 10 July will be an open meeting and the speaker will be Sadie - The Bra Lady. If anyone would like to come please see a member of Ruswarp WI, admission will be £1.
SNEATON YCAMRS Spenceley welcomed members to the April meeting.
Mrs Spenceley welcomed Mrs Harland back after her stay in hospital who in turn thanked members for the get well card and flowers.
Members had enjoyed the March dinner at the Salmon Leap and names were taken for the mystery tour on 8 May and fish and chip supper and prize bingo on 21 May in aid of the Air Ambulance.
A donation of £50 was voted to be donated to head office.
Members were asked for household hints for a new YCA book to be published.
Dates were read from the newsletter including the summer lunch at Kirby Misperton on 7 June, spring meeting in April and carols at York Minster on 7 December.
Barry Hutchinson then gave a talk on his visit to the Great Wall of China and was thanked by B Walker.
Mrs G Stock won the raffle and B Simpson the competition.
AISLABY YCAMRS M Story welcomed members to the 23rd annual meeting. The secretary gave her annual report. Mrs J Williams, treasurer, gave her report which was good news as the subscription will remain the same at £5. Donations of £50 each will be sent to St Catherine's Hospice and the Great North Air Ambulance. Mrs Story, chairman, gave her report and thanked the committee for their help over the past years. Mrs J Williams organised a quiz and a faith supper concluded the meeting.
Mrs M Story welcomed 24 members to the April meeting and expressed birthday wishes to two members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and items from the newsletter were noted including the meeting at Northallerton and Barlby High School and the summer lunch at Kirby Misperton.
The speaker was Lew Graham who showed slides of the crosses on the North York Moors.
Tea hostesses were Mrs S Warren and Miss J Benson.
SLEIGHTS YCAMEMBERS and a visitor were welcomed by the chairman who said it was good to see so many members present on a beautiful spring afternoon.
The minutes of the last meeting and then the county newsletter were read.
Several members will be attending the spring meeting in Northallerton and entries for the Homecraft competition have been taken to county.
As the date of the next meeting will be Easter Monday the April meeting will be on the next day, Tuesday 10 April, when the speaker will be Glennis Roe.
Kathryn Jones then welcomed the speaker, Jane Harland, who demonstrated how to cover a cake with almond paste and then made a birthday card from different types of icing. This could be kept as a keepsake in a cabinet by the recipient.
Jane was thanked by Kathryn.
The raffle was drawn and tea was served by Jeanette.
